Karen Gillan has been cast in the action movie Gunpowder Milkshake. In recent years, the Scottish actress has appeared as Nebula in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy (2014), Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017), and Avengers: Infinity War (2018). She’ll reprise her role in the upcoming Avengers: Endgame.
While Gillan made her feature debut in the 2010 horror film Outcast, she delivered a breakthrough performance in the 2013 supernatural thriller Oculus, directed by Mike Flanagan – the filmmaker behind the 2018 Netflix sensation The Haunting of Hill House. After appearing in only three features, Gillan landed a career-changing role upon entering the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Nebula, and she also appeared in Adam McKay’s 2015 Oscar-winner The Big Short. In addition, Gillan has compiled an extensive TV resume, most notably as Amy Pond in Doctor Who, along with main roles in the short-lived ABC series Selfie and Adult Swim’s procedural parody NTSF:SD:SUV::. In 2018, Gillan starred in the dramedy The Party’s Just Beginning, which she also wrote and directed.
Per THR, Gillan has been cast in the upcoming action film Gunpowder Milkshake, to be directed by Big Bad Wolves filmmakers Aharon Keshales and Navot Papushado. The film will reportedly have an all-female cast and assassin premise, with Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill and Edgar Wright’s Baby Driver serving as inspirations. Released in 2013, Big Bad Wolves earned positive reviews from critics, which preceded the Israeli directors’ segment “F is for Falling” in the 2014 horror anthology film ABCs of Death 2.
As for Gillan, she’s set to begin shooting a Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle sequel, in which she’ll reprise her role of Martha and appear alongside Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart. In addition, Gillan is currently filming the animated adventure film Call of the Wild, an adaptation of the Jack London classic that will co-star Harrison Ford and Dan Stevens. Last month, Screen Rant reported that Gillan is “excited” to appear in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, a highly anticipated film with a turbulent production history given the firing of director James Gunn. In the MCU, Gillan’s Nebula is the adoptive daughter of Thanos, the character who gains control of the six Infinity Stones in Avengers: Infinity War while simultaneously taking down numerous beloved superheroes.
Next month, Gillan is scheduled to begin shooting Jumanji 3 and she’ll then appear in Avengers: Endgame this April. This spring, Gillan will commence production on Gunpowder Milkshake, a film that will undoubtedly signal boost her career even more as she transforms into a A-list mainstream star.
