man is standing near the shop

A look-alike of the iconic character, Gabbar Singh, from the hit Bollywood movie ‘Sholay’ was recently spotted in Karachi in Pakistan, as per reports. The photograph quickly went viral on social media.

Ask anyone who is perhaps the most feared yet the most loved villain in Hindi film industry, and chances are that their answer will be: Gabbar Singh! Immortalised by legendary actor Amjad Khan on screen in the superhit ‘Sholay’ (1975), the character of the despicable gangster that terrorised the village of Ramgarh has left its mark on the history of Indian film cinema, as well as in people’s hearts. So you can perhaps imagine the delight of Twitteratis when a Gabbar Singh-‘lookalike’ was spotted in Pakistan.

As per a photograph shared by a Twitter user on the microblogging site, a doppelganger of the actor Amjad Khan, who played the iconic character, was spotted on the streets of Karachi in Pakistan. Reportedly, the photo was taken at a busy bazaar in the Pakistani city. As can be seen from the picture, right from the man’s hair to his green attire and to his pensive look, all seem to bear an uncanny resemblance to the famous antagonist.

The photo was shared by a Twitter user named Shahjahan Khurram, who wrote in his caption, “This picture of a man in #Karachi bearing a stark resemblance to popular Bollywood villain Gabbar Singh is doing the rounds on social media.” Times Now does not vouch for the authenticity of the photograph. Meanwhile, many on the social media were quite amused by the fact that a Gabbar Singh lookalike was spotted all the way in Pakistan.

Interestingly, Amjad Khan, who essayed the famous role, also had a ‘connection’ with our neighbouring country. He was born on November 12, 1940 in Peshawar, which is now in Pakistan. Born into a Pathan family of Peshawar, Khan appeared in his debut film, Chetan Anand’s  “Hindustan ki Kasam”  in 1973. As per a BBC report, initially, Danny had been signed on to play the role of Gabbar in Sholay. However, due to a scheduling conflict, he had to give up the role, and that is how Amjad got the chance to essay this iconic role.
