Amidst the celebrations at UFC 226 on July 7 in Las Vegas, where Daniel Cormier defeated the reigning heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic, witnessing audiences experienced a never-before moment when the new reigning champion called out Brock Lesnar from the ring.
Brock Lesnar, who had been a former UFC champion himself, had already made his appearance at the venue when he was called out by Cormier.
“Listen to DC. Listen to DC,” Cormier told the crowd. “There’s a guy that I’ve known for a long time. He’s a wrestler. He’s an All-American. He’s a former UFC champion. I never thought I would fight him, but Brock Lesnar, get your ass in here.”
This extravagant invitation for Lesnar to come inside the ring to challenge Cormier could not possibly be anticipated by their fans. Lesnar then got up and entered the ring without a moment of hesitation and there was some impromptu pushing, and trash talk that will be seen on the internet by millions of fans in the next few months. It escalated to an extent that trainers and personnel of the UFC had to literally separate them after which Lasnar was recorded yelling “Touch me now, you go to sleep later.” Now, that is definitely some big time trash talk!
Although no official date has been set for their fight, WWE has issued a statement confirming that the fight will definitely be arranged sometime in the future.
This statement was later confirmed by UFC President Dana White in a press conference held post the show. “People are going to criticize us no matter what we do,” White said in the conference. “Brock came in, he popped for that thing but he beat Mark Hunt who is one of the top guys. [Brock] is a former champion and it’s a fight people want to see, and it’s definitely a fight that Cormier wants.”
