The moment fans have waited for since at least the ending of Avengers: Infinity War has finally arrived: the release of the first trailer for Marvel’s Avengers 4. What’s more, contrary to the latest rumor, it does reveal the official subtitle Endgame.
The footage is bleak, as one might expect given that half of all life in the universe was snuffed out by the snap of Thanos’ fingers. It opens with Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark adrift in space with little prospect of rescue, recording a message to Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow), but not even knowing whether she survived.
But there is hope, of course, as the remaining Avengers have a plan, even if it may be a Hail Mary. “It’s going to work, Steve,” Scarlett J
ohansson’s Black Widow assures Chris Evans’ Captain America. “I know it is,” he replies, “because I don’t know what I’m going to do if it doesn’t.”
And it that doesn’t work, there’s also Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang, who shows up unexpected in the trailer’s “post-credits scene,” if you will.
Avengers: Endgame will arrive on April 26, 2019. Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, Marvel’s Avengers 4 stars Robert Downey Jr., Josh Brolin, Mark Ruffalo, Tom Hiddleston, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Olsen, Chadwick Boseman, Sebastian Stan, Benedict Cumberbatch, Paul Bettany, Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, Benedict Wong, Zoe Saldana, Karen Gillan, Vin Diesel, Dave Bautista, Pom Klementieff, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Holland and Anthony Mackie.
